tinuruan mo ang puso ko na umibig ng tunay

There is a shirt that was made just in time for the Eraserheads Final Set. There were many shirts designed and printed for the event, but there was one that stood out for me. I bought it just in time for the concert, so, even though the neckline wasn’t quite…right for me, I wore it anyway.

me and the amigas on March '09

I haven’t worn it since, mostly because awesome memories were connected to it, and I didn’t want to “taint” it with new ones—yes, I’m an Eraseheads fangirl—and partly because, like I said, the neckline wasn’t quite right. Kind of like my Tetsuwan Atom shirt.

tinuruan mo ang puso ko na umibig ng tunay

So, like what I did to that shirt, I took my sewing shears and snipped away. I tried a different neckline this time, though. Watcha think?

Despite my concern, though, the shirt hasn’t quite been tainted yet. Whenever I see this in my closet, or before and after wearing it, I sigh and remember the Eraserheads’ Final Set. And then I sigh once again as I remember the years I grew up to their music.

Thank you, Eraserheads, for being the first Filipino band I truly loved.

Eheads Final Set 3709” shirt, from Noytee. I can’t remember how much I spent for this. Haha! Also, my DKNY bag, a silver chain necklace, my pig necklace, two kinds of bangles, my watch, and my ponytail thingy (yes, I kind of wore it as a bracelet).

I’m still an arrow unshot

I'm still an arrow unshot…fixed in a bow, I’m still, I’m still
- “Still”, Great Lake Swimmers

Off-shoulder blouse, Shaw MRT Station. Jag jeans. Nine West sandals, borrowed from Karess.  Moon guitar necklace, Circle C.

I have never worn this blouse before this shoot. It’s not exactly office material, and for some reason the time to wear it hasn’t come yet. Until this shoot.

Now that I know how it looks on me—you have to admit, sometimes looking in the mirror isn’t the same thing—I can’t wait to really use it in real life.

On a side note: I almost took a line from Electric Avenue for the title of this post. Something about hanging laundry. Or maybe that “rock it in the daytime, rock it in the night” coda.

sooner or later you’re gonna be the last thing on my mind

sooner or later you're gonna be the last thing on my mindSooner or later
I’ll be free to leave the past behind

- “Sooner or Later”, The Alan Parsons Project

This be my prom dress from my high school senior year. For both of my proms, I was part of the Cotillion dancers, so we were required to wear pink (for the juniors) and blue (for the seniors). But I think I still would have worn blue, even if I had the choice to wear another color. Haha!

I wanted a simple, rather conservative gown—I think you guys already know that I don’t like exposing…skin—and, as mentioned, I was required to wear blue, so we had this made. It had sequins lining the neckline and around the waist area. A couple of layers of chiffon underneath the skirt. And the outer material was tule, I believe… And it was so…flowy. I loved it.

I so SO love this dress that until now I still have trouble letting it go. I’ve had it in my closet for years now, and I’ve even lent it out to one or two younger cousins. It still fits me, oddly enough, but, to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be wearing this again. Some friends have suggested that I have it reconstructed into a more current dress. Some have told me to donate it.

I honestly don’t know what to do with it, because I still love it the way it is now.

Told you I had trouble letting go.

About the photo
Photography by Veejay Jimenez. Yup, this is one of the photos out of my shoot.

Sarah means “princess”, and the gown is rather princessly, so it only made sense to be a princess in this photo.  A rather bored princess who doesn’t want to go to the ball. And refuses to wear heels and wants to wear her Chucks, instead.

oh yeah, I’m looking at the sun

Monday, April 12th, 2010 | accessories, apparel, bags, blouses, bracelets, eyewear, jeans, tank top | 2 Comments

oh yeah I'm looking at the sunShades, Punya. Blue blouseDEI. Lace tank. Jeans,  Jag. Brown leather bag, Celine. Necklace and bracelet from my mom’s dresser.

It’s looking to be an extremely hot summer, but thank goodness for the human invention called the sunglasses.

The other day I was at People are People looking at sunglasses and fell in love with a pair. It was rather pricey, though, so I put it down and decided to buy it next time (if it was still there). About an hour later as I was browsing the new stuff at Punya, I saw an almost identical pair… except the hue was blue instead of black, and it was half the price.

That’s the best “except” I’ve written in a while, yes? Yes! It fits nicely on my nosebridge, and my eyelashes don’t reach it.  Oh, thank God! That’s always been my problem with shades and glasses. The one down side of having long eyelashes :(

Needless to say, I bought the shades. It costs P150, in case anybody’s wondering.

Title from “Looking at the Sun”, Gramercy Arms. Such a happy, summer-y song.

And if you were here then I’d have a choice to live, not be alone

And if you were here then I'd have a choice to live, not be alone

Chips Ahoy tee, Circle C. Jag jeans. Chucks. Tomato watch.

Nothing new or spectacular here in terms of my clothes. Just playing around with the stone…thingies…while waiting for our photo shoot.

For the title I wanted to use something with a three monkeys feel…or something. Ah, but it takes too much time to hunt down the lyrics I want sometimes, and I wanted to post this already. So there.

In case anyone’s wondering, here’s how I pick my titles.

1.) Stare at the photo and wait for a song to magically pop in my head.

2.) Continue (1) until you get impatient.

3.) If nothing happens, make a randomized playlist and wait for a song lyric that can somehow be related to the photo.

4.) Continue doing (3) until successful.

5.) Write the blog post.

LOL. So, yes, I pick a title first before the blog post. Because, really, looking for a song lyric for an already written blog post is HARD.

So…yes. Title from “Winter ’05″, Ra Ra Riot. Yes, I’m aware it isn’t winter anymore (as if it’s ever winter in the Philippines), but that is not the point.

Out of these shadows comes the light

Out of these shadows comes the light You will keep
Keep me in this evening
Even though
You are not here with me

- Shadows, Rufus Wainwright

Pink senseless shirt from Tiendesitas. And when I say senseless, I mean senseless. Even more senseless than lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. It starts with “remlsp spsy…” and goes on to even more letters that seriously cannot be words.

I LOVE IT.

I threw it on today on the way to band practice. And then the heat gave me a  migraine headache, thus the haggard hair, lazy face, and even lazier lighting…which turned out to be pretty nice. Wheeee! Thank you, VJ, for teaching me how to work shadows. Eeeeeee I LOVE IT! (And I am so loving my new curtains for my window, too.)

The atmosphere is crawling with airlines

The atmosphere is crawling with airlinesthat wind through the clouds and look down on the crowds.
-”Air Traffic”, Owl City

Green striped drop-waist top. Leggings. Sandals. Wooden beads necklace. Wooden heart necklace. Leather bag.

Okay, that green tunic has got to be one of my favorite summer clothes. It feels cool when I wear it! The leggings, too. Black, they may be, but I can still feel the wind on my legs.

It was really hot this day, but thanks to my outfit and the cozy wind blowing through High Street, I barely felt the sun at all.

Note the water fountain behind me. And note that I put on sunblock since I expected to walk under the sun for about an hour. And, for some reason there was sand in the grass we were walking on… All I needed was the smell of salty seawater, and I could successfully convince myself that I was on the beach. Haha!

Can I ignore that sound of distant drumming

This, here… This, right here… It is a milestone.

Can I ignore that sound of distant drumming

I saw this in the Get Laud! website late last year and instantly fell in love with it. But, since I’m a shirt jeans girl who doesn’t wear dresses unless completely necessary, I had second (and third) thoughts about buying it. At one point I even closed the window to the catalog and tried to forget about buying it. But I could almost hear the dress calling out to me in the form of strong Indian war drums from Pocahontas’ tribe.

I logged back on the Get Laud! website again and emailed their sales team to ask if they had this dress in the branch near me.

If they don’t have it, then I’m not getting it, I thought to myself.

But it’s so prettyyyyyyyyyyy! I thought again.

But it’s a DRESS, I insisted in thought. And I don’t do dresses unless the situation required it. And situations that required dresses usually required formal ones, so I might not be able to wear this dress after all and I was really, really, REALLY just making up excuses at this point.

So, anyway. I emailed Get Laud, right? They replied quickly, and said that the branches near me, in fact, did NOT have it anymore. Aww.

But—you had to know there was a “but” coming— they’ve checked their other branches, and found one. ONE. One LAST piece. In the whole of Metro Manila. And they were going to have it sent to the branch of my choice if I wanted to.

BUT I DO NOT WEAR DRESSES UNLESS NECESSARY!

I hit “Reply”, and said “Yes, please, and can you girls check if this other shirt dress I like is available?”

I got my order about a week later.

But I didn’t wear dresses on normal days, right? So, after admiring this cute printed dress, I stashed it in my closet, waiting for an event that requires dresses so I can finally wear it.

About five months later, I still haven’t worn it.

And then, while I was cleaning out my closet the other day, I decided that okay, FINE, I was going to wear this dress even though the situation didn’t actually require it. I’ll just wear it with leggings or something. Or over jeans. Or… something. But it was MUCH too hot for a dress and leggings. Even moreso for a dress and jeans.

The result? My Get Laud! dress with the awesome Indian (-ish) print. Chocolate brown stockings (because I’m still not comfortable with having my legs bare without good reason). My brown suede boots. A bracelet you can’t see in the photo. My leather bag.

I can’t say that I’m turning back on the whole I’ll-wear-a-dress-only-when-absolutely-necessary set-up… But this outfit? It. Is. LOVE.

Without giving anything away

without giving anything awayYou’ll find ships inside of bottles
- “Gold in the Air of Summer”, Kings of Convenience

Pink blouse, DEI. White camisole, Landmark. Jeans, HerBench. Wood bead necklace. Glass necklace, Punya. Blue cuff bracelet, Circle C. Bag, L’Oreal. Sandals, my mom’s closet. (She offered that I use her white sandals instead… I think I should have taken her up on that. Haha!)

Most of the items in this outfit have gone from my closet to my discard pile to my closet to my discard pile and back to my closet again.  While I was doing this year’s spring cleaning, I had decided to put that barely used pink blouse and that never used bag in my discard pile again.

Today I had to wear something cool and possibly airy to the Walkway in Fort Bonifacio, since, y’know, we’d be walking in the sun. I decided to try my hand again in the boyfriend jeans, seeing as my last one wasn’t entirely successful. I tried the white cami, too, which I haven’t worn in YEARS (I haven’t learned how to use plain white tops on my body type). And then my eyes fell on my discard pile and saw this pink blouse.  I threw it on, along with a couple of necklaces. And then I grabbed the sailor-looking bag.

Thank God I haven’t gotten rid of them! But don’t get me wrong: this isn’t to promote NOT discarding the stuff in your discard pile, guys. This post is to promote USING the stuff in your closet. Even old ones. Haha!

Needless to say, none of the items in this outfit will go to my discard pile in a looooooooong time.

but I’ve gone so far now

but I've gone so far now

Victory@25 t-shirt, 150. Jeans, unbranded, Circle C. Chucks. Black and brown wood bracelet.  Black and brown beaded necklace.

That shirt right there has got to be one of the best event shirts I’ve ever seen. It looks so…un-promotional-y!

Okay. It’s confession time once again. I’m having a reeeeeeeeally hard time keeping up with this blog. There are days when my mind draws a blank for song lyrics to use as titles, and I’m not a pose guru yet, and, let’s face it: I don’t have 365 outfits. True, I can shoot my accessories individually—and I’ve done that once or twice—but, really, I’m having a hard time right now. And you’ve probably noticed. (Or not.)

But I’m already three months in. I shouldn’t give up now, yes? I just have to get my creative juices flowing more. And look up fashion photography. And listen to more songs. I can do this, yes?
